After a great and busy summer, it was back to Leeds for 2nd year. I have no idea where my first year went. But what i do know is I had the best time and can not wait for this year.
The reason I wanted to post was to talk about some work experience I did with West Yorkshire police. I was working with a team to help students protect their valuables. Myself and a police officer went to the student halls and showed each flat how to register and protect their phones,laptops and mp3's. It was a really interesting evening as a lot of people had no idea of the risk they were putting their valuables at if they did not register them. There appears to be a lot of crime around the student areas in Leeds, so it is really important that students have valuables registered and that they take out insurance.
At the end of the night the police office that I was working with let me try on his gear ( which was really heavy). Hopefully I can work alongside them again at some point during the year.
I am also social sec for my course. This will be really fun as I get to organise socials and events that will be relevant to people studying criminology. Here is a picture from when we had our 'give it ago' event. At this event we had 2 police officers come and speak about their role.
